The Future School is an independent school for young people ages 12 to 18 to learn and grow into being the thoughtful, courageous and compassionate thinkers, leaders and problem solvers who will lead authentic lives, while facing the challenges of the 21st century.
The Future School (TFS) is centered around a philosophy of learning by doing. TFS learning is centered around the following 6 fundamental principles.
Crafting experiences that harness the creative energies and ideas of learners to develop flexible innovators.
Capitalizing on learners strengths and interests to produce goods and services that serve the larger community.
Actualizing values of equity, sovereignty, and social responsibility through action.
Redefining failure and missteps as stepping stones to deeper learning and success.
Ensuring that application and adaptation is at the heart of the learning process.
Developing frameworks for questioning and the habits of mind needed for critical reflection of ourselves and the world.
Sankofa: an Adinkra symbol which symbolizes taking from the past what is good and bringing it into the present in order to make positive progress through the benevolent use of knowledge.
